Husband and wife duo, Vee and Rob Mossburg, founded the Cottage Company of Harbor Springs, a Michigan based building and design firm that specializes exclusively in creating modern day cottages. Though undoubtedly cottage style inspired, there is nothing quaint about one of their dreamy estates. Vee says she focuses on designing interiors that “don’t compete with, but rather enhance the beauty of the outdoors”, a quality that can be seen through the minimalist window treatments and docile interiors of this lake cottage.

Former TV personality turned interior designer, Seleta Hayes Howard recreated the décor elements of this shabby chic bedroom on her blog, including even the faux bois mirror, framed with resin branches. Seleta credits the room’s calm charisma to the clean palette of white with neutral and bounty of natural light.

A farmhouse kitchen is arguably the best feature of a modern country cottage! Siding with simpler styles, you’ll find hardwood floors in place of tile in many farmhouse inspired kitchens. While the oversized island is undeniably dominant in the space, the pale blue and alabaster palette keeps the room’s overall vibe light and approachable.

Based in the heart of Chelsea, London, the lean team of ten that comprises Cabbage & Roses, a British fashion and fabrics house, proudly claims to produce all their products with a “hint of great British humor”. Livable items that are still beautiful and slathered in shabby chic charm, this room scene (along with every other one from their Winchelsea Beach look book) had us gushing over the dainty prints, forgiving fabrics and fashionable farmhouse feel.

From coastal cottages to the English countryside, tie the room together with the luxurious comfort and vintage inspired designs of Karastan carpet and rugs. A debut of the Sierra Mar Collection, the French Quarter Bluestone is a transitional design inspired by the ironwork gates and balconies of New Orleans. This graphic composition is softened with an organic visual texture rendered in a palette of soft browns, robin’s egg blue and limestone.
